Rhapsody invests in EDM service Dubset

Rhapsody has announced an undisclosed investment in the Series B funding round of EDM music service Dubset.

Dubset is a startup with offices in New York, London and Los Angeles that provides rights management solutions, services and technologies focused on serving the electronic dance music scene.

The company has three key products. MixSCAN enables - according to the company’s website - “..the identification, distribution, tracking, and reporting of long-form content including mixes, live sets, and podcasts.”

MixBANK is the company’s content ingestion service through which all DJ-mixed content on the platform has to pass. It provides secure storage as well as a distribution utility to publish content.

Thefuture.fm is Dubset’s consumer-facing site which acts both as a distribution outlet and as an editorial outlet. DJs can set up single sites for all their content and monetise them via VIP clubs that use incentives such as ticket deals or rare recording to draw fans in.

Rhapsody’s investment could mean that the company is interested in making the content on Dubset available on its service in order to provide a better experience for EDM fans. The investment though does not give the streaming service a controlling interest so in theory  Dubset should still be able to negotiate potential deals with Rhapsody’s competitors which include Spotify and Rdio.
