R.E.M. release massive rarities collections on iTunes and Amazon

R.E.M. released almost out o the blue tow new massive collections of rarities. The compilations are available only digitally and they are called "Complete Rarities: Warner Bros. 1988-2011" and "Complete Rarities: I.R.S. 1982-1987".

The first one features 131 songs: b-sides, non album tracks, live recordings, demos, instrumental versions, alternate mixes, covers The latter is a 50 tracks compilation with rare material fom the band's IRS years featuring - among the others - studio covers of Roger Miller's "King of the Road", Andy Williams' "Moon River" and the Velvet Underground tracks "Pale Blue Eyes" and "There She Goes Again". It costs $23.99.

Moreover, R.E.M.'s full catalogue just received a digital reissue in special "Mastered for iTunes" format; this means their debut ep "Chronic Town" (1982) has finally been reissued - after many years of limbo: it has never even been released as a standalone CD, before.
