Morrissey cancels European dates: the flu knocked down part of his crew

Morrissey was forced to cancel a number of Europen dates due to a flu outbreak which knocked down part of his road crew.

The singer called off his gig in Lyon, France on Friday, after a member of his entourage fell ill. His shows in Lausanne and Basel, Switzerland, were subsequently cancelled.

A statement posted on Morrissey's fansite True-To-You yesterday said: "Due to ongoing influenza amongst band and crew members tonight's show at Lausanne (Switzerland) cannot take place. It is hoped that the show will be re-scheduled for December. Tomorrow's show at Basel looks unlikely, although Wednesday's show at Hannover (Germany) remains firmly in place. Apologies are offered for any inconvenience".

The 55-year-old singer has been hospitalized a number of times over the past few years. He suffered with a bleeding ulcer in early 2013, double pneumonia in March 2013, food poisoning in July 2013 and a respiratory infection earlier this year. Then, earlier this year, he unveiled he was treated for cancer: "They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever. If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t. Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that’s what illness can do. I’m not going to worry about that, I’ll rest when I’m dead".
