One Direction “Four” sales disappoint: is the magic over?

One Direction’s new album “Four” has conquered the N.1 spot on the Billboard 200 - as everyone expected - but with 401,000 copies shifted the UK boy band has sold over 20% less copies than last year, when “Midnight Memories” sold in excess of a half million in the first week.

The boys will find it hard to blame the industry at large for the decline, after all Taylor Swift has proven everyone wrong with her million-plus first week sales. So, is their time in the spotlight over?

Well, there's certainly enough runway for one more world tour: the group is slated to play 46 gigs in 2015, most of which will be in football stadiums, so in spite of a decline in album sales there's no need to worry about their fans disappearing just yet.

The group has reportedly been experiencing tensions, and even started travelling on separate planes during tours and other promotional engagements. It won’t be long until One Direction has a “Robbie Williams moment” and one of them splits off to bet on a solo career. Who will that be? Harry Styles? That’s one for the bookies…
