Snapchat to announce video content deals with Warner Music, Vice and others

Snapchat is due to announce a host of content deals later today according to the New York Post which will see the messaging app feature videos from the likes of Comedy Central, the Food Network, CNN, National Geographic, Vice and Warner Music Group.

Snapchat hired Nick Bell, formerly senior VP at News Corp, to head their content strategy and he has clearly been busy forging content partnerships.

Warner Music in particular is going to be involved together with DJ Chris Miles who will do voice overs and introduce new tracks to users.

This is an interesting deal for Warner and it allows that company to expose its artists to over 100 million users around the world as well as to monetise those views. Videos will be preceded by adverts - just like on YouTube - and the revenue share will reportedly be quite favourable to content providers.

As of yet it’s unclear whether Warner managed to get some sort of exclusivity for a certain period of time on the deal or if Snapchat may be actively pursuing other deals with Universal Music and Sony Music.
