After Apple, Snapchat may be interested in buying Big Machine

After rumours of a possible acquisition by Apple, it looks like Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine label has another interested buyer in the social messaging service Snapchat, the New York Post reports.

The record label executive has apparently raised the price of Big Machine from $200 to $350 million - all figures are rumours so we’re treading in highly speculative terrain.

Even more interesting, Apple and Snapchat may be looking to find a way to partner up and buy the label together.

Can that be possible given Apple’s “walled garden” approach? Maybe, but only if that meant that there would be a wider integration between Snapchat and Apple’s upcoming streaming service - this could be an unusual but potentially rewarding move for Cupertino.

For now, nothing to go on other than the New York Post’s story, we’ll keep an eye on this story as it develops.

It is worth pointing out that Taylor Swift is the only megastar on the roster of Big Machine and she only has one album left with the label, so this would be a hefty price to pay for Swift’s back-catalogue and an exclusive on the next album.
