Vessel strikes a deal with Universal Music Group for early access to videos

Vessel has struck a deal with Universal Music Group for exclusive access to some of the record label’s videos.

The startup counts on fans being prepared to spend a little extra per month to have exclusive access to videos before they are released to the wider public through channels like YouTube.

Universal Music is smart to be interested in “kicking the tyres” of the new service and figuring out whether there is a model or a company out there that can compete with YouTube’s supremacy, or at least put some pressure on a site that is currently without a doubt the first port of call for a whole generation of music consumers worldwide.

Vessel requires videos to be exclusive to the platform for a minimum of 72 hours before they are released.

Jason Kilar, former Hulu CEO and Vessel founder, stated that Universal Music’s team “has a real gift for finding talented new voices” and that he and his team are excited to work with UMG to help those voices reach a wider audience through Vessel.
