Record Store Day 2015 brings music fans together

In spite of the negative press surrounding "Record Store Day" due to the negative impact it has had on independent labels’ release schedule - with majors accused of ’hogging’ vinyl pressing plants - the 2015 was still at heart a celebration of music and it’s hard see anything wrong with that.

This was clear as photos and videos streamed in from events happening all over the world.

In Niles, Ohio, the Foo Fighters invaded an independent record store called Record Connection to perform in an unusual setting for a gig that is sure to be remembered for years to come (if you think that’s odd, Grohl’s grandma lives just up the road - perhaps a good excuse to go and visit?).

In Manchester, UK, fans camped overnight to get their hands on the exclusive vinyl releases at Piccadilly Records.

In London, Rough Trade East presented a set from British post-punk band Wire whilst in Soho’s Berwick Street a mini-festival took place with performances from The 2 Bears, Dj Yoda and Young Knives - just a stone’s throw from legendary store Sister Ray.

Hollywood’s branch of Amoeba featured sets from Pure Instinct and Knxwledge as well as a ice cream as the “Magic Whip” Blur ice cream truck pulled over in front of the store.

In short, everyone had a great time. Is it important to figure out a way to make it more "sustainable" so that it doesn't end up negatively impacting indies? Certainly, but in terms of getting fans excited about buying music Record Store Day is certainly hitting the mark.
