The Libertines at work with Ed Sheeran and One Direction producer

This is a really odd couple, but it's happening and - maybe -- it will bring us some new great music... we're talking about The Libertines and Jake Gosling, the producer who worked with the likes of One Direction and Ed Sheeran. Carl Barat, indeed, confirmed that the band will work with Gosling in a studio, in Thailand, to complete the third album (and the first in 11 years).

Barat explained why Pete Doherty and him chose to hire Gosling (who was nominated for a Grammy for his work with Sheeran and produced One Direction's last three albums):

We had wish lists flying back and forth, from the [John] Leckies through to the [Paul] Epworths and Stephen Street. What it boiled down to was that we wanted to try something a bit new with someone who is a bit new. We wanted someone who is getting their thing going, rather than someone who is just going to put us through their machine. This isn't a heritage band making a heritage album.

Barat also said that the band is currently excited and in top shape:

He stated: "The feeling's great, we've been sparking. The pistons are all firing. I'm genuinely excited, and can't wait to get this stuff out there. We've all been waiting to write this record for ages.
