Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins launches Gospel-oriented venture Lifestyle Music Group

Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Rodney Jerkins - best known by his nickname Darkchild - has announced the launch of the Lifestyle Music Group, a gospel and Christian music company that will be distributed through Motown Gospel/Capitol Christian Music Group.

This will be the first time Jerkins formally enters the Christian and gospel music world after nearly two decades spent churning out hit after hit in the R&B and pop music space.

His first hit song came with Mary J Blige “I Can Love You” in 1997 and the following year he just exploded on the charts working on mega-singles like “The boy is mine” by Brandy and Monica and “It’s not right but it’s OK” by Whitney Houston.

The string of hits continued over the years as he worked with Britney Spears, Destiny’s Child, Beyonce and many more. In 2015 his production of "Stay with me" took home two Grammys for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Jerkins was keen to highlight this is not the typical label launch stating: “Lifestyle Music Group is not a label. It’s a destination where a community of artists can exist and just be themselves, authentically expressing their God-given gifts without judgment.”

Former Columbia and Warner Bros. Records executive Demmette Guidry has been appointed as General Manager of the new enterprise, and stated: “Music isn’t only a commodity. It’s the very soundtrack for the way we live our lives as individuals. At LMG, we will consciously utilize a more psychographic or lifestyle approach to the creation and marketing of our music versus being constrained by genre and demographics alone.”

The group’s initial roster includes singer/songwriters Joy Enriquez and Tim Bowman Jr.
