Arctic Monkeys win O2 Silver Clef Awards for Best Live Act

Arctic Monkeys have won the Best Live Act at the O2 Silver Clef Awards.

The shortlist consisted of 15 artists who played in the UK between March 2014 and March 2015. Handpicked by a panel of music industry experts, it also included alt-J, Arcade Fire, Bruno Mars, Disclosure, Dolly Parton, Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters, Kate Bush, Pharrell, Prince, Royal Blood, Rudimental, Sam Smith and Taylor Swift. The honour - sponsored by Live Nation and Ticketmaster UK - is the only one of the awards to be decided by a public vote. During May and June, the public were asked to vote for their Best Live Act of 2015 via the Nordoff Robbins website and Twitter.

Ticketmaster UK chairman Chris Edmonds said

The Arctic Monkeys continue to take live audiences by storm, and the past year for them has been no exception. With two sold out gigs in London’s Finsbury Park and headline slots at Reading and Leeds Festival, the band proved that they are the UK’s number one live act.

Previous winners of the Best Live Act Award include Justin Timberlake (2014), One Direction (2013), McFly (2012) and Sir Paul McCartney (2011).

"It was tough competition this year again, but the Arctic Monkeys came out on top" added Live Nation chief operating officer Paul Latham.

Speaking about their win, the band said

Thanks to everyone who voted for us and helped us win this year's Nordoff Robbins Best Live Act Award at the O2 Silver Clefs. It's a real honour to be chosen. Congratulations to Nordoff Robbins on their 40th birthday and for all the incredible work they do using music therapy to help people.

Other winners set to be presented during the ceremony today (July 3) in London with their awards today include Duran Duran, Rita Ora, Kasabian, Mark Ronson, Iron Maiden, Primal Scream, James Bay and Jake Bugg.
