Calvin Harris is the world’s top-paid DJ, followed by Guetta and Tiësto

Calvin Harris has cemented his status as the highest paid DJ in the world according to Forbes, bringing home over $66 million over the past 12 months.

Harris is way ahead of David Guetta - who earned $37 million - and Tiësto. Further down the list are Avicii, Zedd, Skrillex and Steve Aoki, all earning well over $20 million.

DJs earn the majority of their income from live performances, since the set-up required is minimal (aside from monstrous lighting rigs) and they can bounce from club to club performing at two or three venues each night charging fees in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Vegas in particular is a real draw, with many of the names in the list holding weekly or bi-monthly spots as some of the top clubs on the Strip.

DJs are also starting to appeal to lifestyle brands given the mainstreaming of EDM, Harris has posed for a much-publicised Emporio Armani campaign and Guetta has a number of brand partnerships on the go at any given time.

No one knows what the future holds for EDM, is it here to stay or will it continue to draw huge audiences for years to come? Regardless, the guys in this list have plenty of time to think about that retirement fund…
