Google Play Music adds podcasts to the service to diversify listening experience

Google Play Music is the latest music streaming service to add podcasts to its offering in order to diversify the listening experience.

Re/Code reports that the company is already allowing podcasters to upload shows in the Google Play hub, but the service does not have a firm launch date yet, and will go live ‘in the coming months’.

Podcasts will be available both on the free and the paid tier of Google Play Music, and the service will make use of Songza’s expertise in curation as well as Google’s algorithm to find the perfect content for each user.

Podcasting is fast becoming an important way to offer spoken-word content to consumers that can be alternated with the on-demand music experience. Deezer has entered the podcasting space via its acquisition of Stitcher and Spotify is also adding podcasts to its offering.
