Zune no longer

Zune no longer

Microsoft has finally shut down the Zune music service for good. The move had been announced in September and had made some headlines purely because most people had forgotten that the Zune music service existed.

Those who had stuck around all this time as subscribers will be moved to Microsoft’s new Groove Music service.

The Zune device had been released in 2006 and the last iteration of the hardware had been produced in 2008, which makes the fact that Microsoft continued to keep the service alive until today all the more astonishing.

Stand-alone devices did not stand a chance once the iPhone introduced the concept of smartphone apps (no matter how much Neil Young wants you to believe that the Pono is the future of music).
