Jimmy Iovine apologises after stating that women have difficulties finding music

Apple Music executive Jimmy Iovine put his foot in his mouth this week when during an interview with “CBS This Morning” he stated that “some women at times find it very difficult to find music.”

The remarks generated a flurry of negative comments online, so much so that Gayle King, the co-host of the show Iovine appeared on tweeted:

Just hours after his appearance, Iovine has apologised for the blunder by stating: “We created Apple Music to make finding the right music easier for everyone — men and women, young and old, Our new ad focuses on women, which is why I answered the way I did, but of course the same applies equally for men. I could have chosen my words better, and I apologize.”

The comment was made all the more controversial given the women-centric advert that the company had aired featuring Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington and Taraji P Henson chatting about how great the service was for finding music. At the time it was broadcast, the advert was met with a great deal of praise as it felt fresh and spontaneous, but Iovine’s comment certainly put it in a very different light.
