Bowie's sales and streams soar as Blackstar set to debut at n.1 in the UK and US

David Bowie's final musical act - the album Blackstar - is heading for the top of the charts both in the UK and the US.

Variety reports that in the United States Blackstar has already moved 120,000 copies, whilst in the UK according to the Official Charts Company it has sold 100,000 copies. The only territory where it has already officially hit the top spot is New Zealand.

Alongside the new release, which has been received very positively by critics and fans alike, Bowie's catalogue is experiencing a resurgence. "Heroes" could reach the Top 10 for the first time in the UK Chart - surprisingly it had peaked only at n.24 back in 1977, and another four Bowie songs could make the Top 40.

Meanwhile, Spotify streams of his music were up 2,700% between the 11th and 12th of January - as fans turned to streaming services to rediscover the artist's back catalogue and pay tribute to his music. Bowie's music videos were seen 51 million times on YouTube on January 11, breaking a Vevo record. YouTube was also a big draw, with fans binging on videos of his concerts and TV appearances.
