Amazon brings personalised radio stations to UK Prime subscribers

Amazon Music has just gotten more interesting in the UK as Prime members are now able to access hundreds of personalised, ad-free stations.

The move by Amazon towards a Pandora-like experience should attract those who want some background noise during the day but are not overly concerned with exactly what is playing.

Amazon's radios are primarily genre and decade-driven as well as artist-driven. There are no mood or activity-based stations, such as those provided by Google Play thanks to its Songza acquisition.

In addition, Amazon Music has extended the availability of the X-Ray Lyrics functionality to thousands of tracks, enabling its members to sing along as and when they wish to do so.

The service is by no means a Spotify killer, but given the low overall cost of an Amazon Prime membership it’s a freebie that will be especially handy to the millions of people who are purchasing Fire devices, be it the tablets or the TV units, since it comes pre-installed.
