WhoSampled app to enhance experience with Spotify integration

WhoSampled is integrating Spotify on its iOS app, Billboard reports. The new feature will enable users to have instant access to the full track that originated a sample and to all the tracks that used that sample since without having to leave the app.

WhoSampled had already worked with Spotify in the past releasing a uDiscovery and a Blue Note app that featured an integration with the streaming service.

Whilst the partnership makes perfect sense for users of the app, it would also be great to see some WhoSampled information surface on Spotify. One of the big criticisms of streaming services in general is that they do not allow users to find out anything about the music (including sample information, songwriters, performers). Samples connections could be a fun way of introducing listeners to the hits that made their current favourite songs possible.

Strangely, in spite of Billboard’s report, the WhoSampled website itself does not yet mention the integration, nor does the App Store page include the new Spotify integration within its description, so it may be that the actual release is still a few days away.

The WhoSampled app costs $3.99/£2.99 upfront and there don’t appear to be monetisation plans beyond that.
