Jennifer Lopez returns to Sony via deal with Epic Records

Jennifer Lopez has signed a new long-term contract with Epic Records, Billboard reports, marking her return to Sony after six years spent at Universal Music.

The singer and actress has enjoyed her most successful period as a musician with Sony Music, selling over 10 million records with “On the 6” and “J.Lo”. The move to Universal proved to be a disaster, as “Love” - released in 2011 - sold 346,000 copies in the US and “A.K.A.” was a total flop with just over 70,000 copies sold.

Sony executive LA Reid stated: “I'm thrilled to welcome Jennifer back home with me to Epic Records. Jennifer is a true global icon with a magnetism that sears across music, film, and TV and I'm excited to be working together again.”

It would be extremely interesting to know more about the terms of the deal. Lopez’s latest hit was in 2011 with “On The Floor”, and prior to that “All I Have” in 2003. Given the sub-par performance of the last two albums a multi-million dollar deal seems unlikely.
