Green Day's "American Idiot" greenlighted by HBO

Iconic pop punkers Green Day revealed that the long-awaited movie adaptation of their seminal album "American Idiot" got a green lightr from HBO, so the projcet is going to become teality soon-ish.

Billie Joe Armstrong said to "NME" that progress is well underway with the project:

We’ve got a green light from HBO, and the script is currently going through a couple of rewrites here and there, so I’m not sure when exactly we’re going to start shooting, but it’s definitely all systems go at the moment.

The politically-charged 2004 album saw a revival of the band's career, and was later turned into a Broadway Musical with a spin-off in London. It has been tipped and discussed to be made into a film since its release, before reports emerged in 2011 of Tom Hanks wanting to produce it, before the film was finally confirmed in 2013 and playwright Rolin Jones revealed he was "finishing up" the script back the following year.
