Universal Music is ripping down all Facebook cover videos

Last year, Universal Music Publishing Group started asking for cover videos to be taken down by Facebook. The definition "cover video" refers to any performance of a song already written and copyrighted and, if UMPG owns the copyrights to that song (which consists of the notes and lyrics), it can legally rip it down if they’re not receiving payment for it.

This happened because Facebook and UMPG couldn’t agree on a royalty agreement for the songs being covered. Now UMPG is waging an all out assassination against Facebook cover videos and the accounts that contain them.

Users are getting complaints from UMPG stating if violations keep on, their entire accounts can be nixed - and not only the infringing videos.
