Linkin Park's statement on Chester Bennington’s death

Nu-metal, alt metal band Linkin Park shared an open letter dedicated to their late frontman, Chester Bennington, after he took his life on July 20 at the age of 41.

They wrote:

Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened.

Bennington’s bandmates go on to discuss his gift for humanizing his darkness in his lyrics, and they express their gratitude for working with him. They close the letter by affirming their “inextinguishable” passion for making music and note, “While we don’t know what path our future may take, we know that each of our lives was made better by you”. Linkin Park have launched a new section of their website designed to help people struggling with suicidal thoughts and depression. Last week, the Los Angeles County coroner confirmed that Bennington’s death was a suicide by hanging. Linkin Park have since cancelled their One More Light North American Tour, as well as another joint tour with Blink-182.
