YouTube Music will come as a pre-installed app on new Android devices
The transition from Google Play Music to YouTube Music is going steady.
Indeed, Google has announced that the YouTube Music app will now be pre-installed on all devices running the latest versions of its Android operating system - that’s to say Android 9 and Android 10.
For now, this is likely to to be something of a niche: as a guide, Google’s latest data for Android-version share (from May 2019) showed that only 10.4% of active Android devices were using version 9 of the operating system. Android 10 hadn’t been released yet.
By the way, replacing the previous Google Play Music pre-install will get YouTube Music in front of more people. YouTube’s task remains the same: not just getting people to use its music app, but persuading them to upgrade to a full premium subscription.
