Pearl Jam On: Making A Record

Every time we go in to make a record, it's like
We show up that first day of demoing stuff
And everybody's got a song, or
And we just, we just start workin' through each guy's songs
And, and there's no, we're just waiting to feel that excitement as a group

Okay, that song's great, we're all, we all know that that one's exciting
Okay, that one's cool, but maybe it still needs a little bit of work
Or, you know, Ed really likes this one but he hasn't quite figured it out yet
And-, you know, and then he does, and then all of a sudden you hear what he was hearing
Which is, you know, you realize what was was good about it

Uhm, but we never sit down and really talk about what we wanna do
Because I think it would almost be impossible for us to decide on where
What we were all excited about, but it all ends up working out
That we are excited about it at the end, but it's
It's kind of, it's a kind of a cool thing about the process is that there's not a lot of talkin' about it

It's always baffling when you hear other bands come out and say like
"Well, this is the title of our next record and we haven't written any songs yet"
"But we're gonna go in this direction"
And it's like how? How do they do that? Like how, how do they navigate (yeah) to that point, like
