ILMC’s concerts business event debuts tech start-ups section in 2015

London-based International Live Music Conference (ILMC), the global networking event for concert business professionals and promoters, will officially be courting tech start-ups for the first time next year.

Approaching its 27th year, ILMC is revamping its agenda at the conference from 6 to 8 March 2015 to drag the concert-promotion sector into the 21st century.

The new schedule will offer delegates greater opportunities to make the necessary business contacts. More spaces will be available for private meetings, while the number of panel discussions will jump 50%. Additionally, there will be a new educational workshop held throughout the weekend.

Attendees will also be invited to the inaugural Tech Laboratory, a new area at the venue dedicated to showcasing the activities of related innovative start-ups.

“The changes are the result of a lot of conversations with our members earlier this year; we’re now more geared to the needs of the modern business than ever,” ILMC head Greg Parmley says.

ILMC is an invitation-only conference serving more than over 1,000 delegates from more than 60 countries. It recently announced a partnership with touring insurance specialist Robertson Taylor W&P Longreach to develop the next generation of gig promoters.

The line-up of speakers in 2015 has yet to be published. But last year, high-profile participants included Folkert Koopmans, managing director of Germany-based promoter FKP Scorpio; John Reid, president of concerts Live Nation; Geoff Meal, UK managing director of talent-booking firm The Agency Group; AEG Europe’s president/CEO Tom Miserendino, and Paul Crockford, Mark Knopfler’s manager.

The event’s scoop was the live interview with Rob Hallett, the former president of international touring at AEG Live. Outside of North America, he had overseen major tours by Leonard Cohen, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber, Black Eyed Peas, and Prince. His interview took place just before he announced his departure from the company in April, after 10 years.

ILMC 27 will take place at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London.
